To reduce the cost of harvesting, it is mostly carried out by special combine harvester with a large capacity. Harvested in May and early June, optimally when 70% of flower heads are physiologically mature. Chamomile has a great economic value in worldwide medicinal plants trade and it is one of the most important medicinal crops. The areas under aromatic, herb and medicinal plants in Croatia are constantly increasing, and natural geographical conditions are extremely favorable for organic cultivation of medicinal plants in all parts of the Croatia. Although the share of endemic, endangered and protected taxa is low, the diversity of other native plants justifies protection of the researched area at the level of a regional park. The share of urbanophobic and invasive taxa as well as the values of indicators of anthropogenic changes in the researched flora indicate that the investigated area shows semi-natural character, with weak to moderate anthropogenic pressure. The spectrum of life forms indicates the dominance of hemicryptophytes (50.4%), and the most prominent chorological type is Eurasian (55.0%). The most abundant families are Fabaceae (9.3%), Poaceae (7.7%), Asteraceae (7.5%), Lamiaceae (6.2%) and Rosaceae (5.1%). On the area of about four km², 389 vascular plant species (which belong to 77 families) were noticed.

So far, no floristic data have been recorded for this area, planned to be a part of the future Hrvatsko zagorje Regional Park (Croatian Zagorje Regional Park). The wild vascular flora of the area in the northwestern part of Croatia-Hrvatsko Zagorje (near the settlements of Cerje Jesenjsko, Šaša, Pašnik, Vrbno and Ježovec, along with the related hamlets) was explored during the vegetation season of 2011. The main goal is to determine natural geographic conditions which influence organic medicinal plants production that contribute to the revitalization of rural areas and slow down deagrarization and deruralization if systematically applied. The article deals with the current situation of collecting and producing medicinal plants in Croatia and the opportunities that economic activity can offer. Until then Croatia was one of the leading producers of chamomile and lavender in the world.

These two plants had the biggest share in medicinal plants production before war in the 1990s. In this work the authors give the most relevant information on chamomile (Matricaria chamomile) and lavender (Lavandula anustifolia) production. In all parts of Croatia natural geographic conditions, namely climatic, pedological and hydrogeographical conditions are suitable for organic production of medicinal plants.
